Reunion

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Hello everyone! The past several days have been quite hectic. I left on Friday with Paul's parents for Ft. Sill in Lawton, OK to FINALLY see Paul in person - after 6 months! - I have not seen Paul since March and it has been so hard for all of us. I have missed him soooooooo much! He is the sunshine in my life :)

It was a little awkward at first when we saw each other again because we've been apart for so long. It was kind of like meeting each other for the first time again. But we quickly got back into our usual dynamic and soon it was "doki doki" and lovey dovey all the time, haha. I think being absent from one another has made our relationship stronger, because we are forced to really communicate and make the effort to sustain and grow what we already have.

The past 3 days have been amazing. It was wonderful, magical, and so much fun. I love him so much.
I cannot wait until he is back home in September. Only 3 more weeks! We can do this! :)

I thought this sink in our hotel room makes a really funny picture because it shows our different personalities. Paul's side is on the left. He always puts his stuff back neatly because he is a super OCD neat freak. (Oh that flat iron on the left is mine, so I guess I took over his side too LOL sorry Hunny!) I'm a naturally messy person so it always looks like a tornado came through my area hahaha!

My love is so handsome! I bought him this yellow shirt for his birthday. I've convinced him that being matchy-matchy is super fun! Buahahaha XD

"'What is the use of a book,' thought Alice, 'without pictures or conversations?'"

How was everyone's week? My cousin Minh Tri and his family came over to visit our home this week. He has 4 little kids--2 boys (age 10 and 8) and 2 girls (age 5 and 2). I had so much fun hanging out with them. I got to experience what having four kids is like. Kids are expensive and a lot to handle, but having them is very rewarding and fun. I look forward to having some little ones of my own in the future. Since I am a kid at heart, it's going to be a blast playing with them and sharing all the joys of life ^_^

This painting today is inspired by Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. :) I will be working on some new paintings this weekend. Can't wait to show you!

A Taste of Tulips

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Happy Wednesday! I made this painting last December and never got around to photographing it properly. This painting has become one of my favorites because of the amount of time, love, and care it took to finish it. It was quite a challenge! I was inspired by Christian Dior's Spring 2009 Haute Couture collection and 17th century Dutch art. His collection was actually inspired by 17th century Dutch art, which is a big part of why I fell in love with the dresses. They are so gorgeous and you can clearly see the Dutch motifs in the dresses, from the tulips to the china. I copied the flowers from Dutch still-life paintings. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do. :)

Peony

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Hi everyone!
I hope you're all having a wonderful weekend so far.

I finally got around to photographing some new paintings. This 30"x40" painting is inspired by Asian art and Christian Dior's Spring 2007 Couture collection. It's one of my favorite collections because it's inspired by East Asian artwork and culture. I might do an entire series on this collection because it is just so beautiful. Fashion is very inspiring, don't you agree? ;)

I just started a new painting on wood. It's quite large: 48"x48"! I haven't painted this large before, so it's going to be quite a challenge. My love Paul is still in bootcamp for the Army National Guard and I miss him sooo much! He's been gone since March. Sometimes I can't believe it's been so long since I've seen him! Well, I have missed Paul too much so I decided to make a painting starring me and him as the main characters this time haha~ It's going to be super sweet like a fairytale. Since he's my Prince after all :) Can't wait to show you the process!

CLASS Commencement 2012

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Hello everyone!

Today was my college graduation. It's about time! I graduated from the University of Houston- College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts - Painting+minor in Art History, Magna Cum Laude. I am so happy to be done with my undergraduate studies! It's been a long four years, which seem to have passed by lightning fast! I have already been accepted with a full scholarship + teaching assistantship into an MFA program and will be attending Houston Baptist University this Fall 2012 to pursue a two-year Master of Fine Arts degree. I'm so excited!!! I can't wait to start school in August and get my own studio again! :) I love pursuing knowledge and learning, so I will not be satisfied until I have earned my terminal degree, hehe.

The Hofheinz Pavilion where the graduation was held was PACKED with graduates and guests! I think there were about 2000 students graduating in CLASS alone today! The commencement began at 9:00 AM and ended around 1:00 PM! They lied to us when they said 11:30 AM was the end, hahahaha. My parents, little sister, friend Kim, and fiancĂ©'s little sister Nichole came to see me graduate. I was so happy they could all make it! :)

During her speech, Ruth J. Simmons, the president of Brown University, pointed out that all of the perfect 4.0 GPA graduates are women. It was very inspiring to see that women are the ones earning top honors! It shows that women are AWESOME! (But duh, you already know that) There were soooo many women receiving their Masters and Doctorates. I feel so pumped up and motivated to work hard because I want to be just as accomplished. Women rock! YEAHHHHH!!!! :D

So yes, girls. Education is VERY IMPORTANT! Don't ever let anyone tell you you can't! You are capable of anything when you put your mind to it and believe in yourself. Congratulations to all University of Houston graduates of Class of 2012! You did it!

Junko Shimada Spring 2010

Happy Monday everyone.

I haven't gotten around to scanning my new work yet. I'll be posting new work soon! So here's an old marker illustration I did of Junko Shimada's Spring 2010 RTW. I really liked the detail of the dress.

Happy Monday! I hope you all have a wonderful week.

Here's an old sketch I did of model Gemma Ward. I need to get back to doing quick sketches. I have an old sketchbook that's still waiting to be filled.

Miu Miu Puzzle

Miu Miu's Fall 2010 Ready-to-Wear collection is one of my favorites of that season. I love the playfulness and 60's mod vibe! So I decided to make a fun little puzzle of three dresses from their collection. You can mix and match the girls' heads, tops, and bottoms :)

Catfish Friday

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all have had a great week so far.

Today's painting is inspired by old Japanese catfish paintings. I just love how playful catfish have always been depicted in such paintings. They are one of my favorite creatures to paint. :) The dress my girl is wearing is from Chanel's Fall Couture 2006 collection. I love how it resembles fish scales.

Givenchy Fall 2011 Couture

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you have a great week.

I want to show you one of my favorite paintings I have done. This painting is inspired by Givenchy Fall 2011 Couture and old Japanese watercolor paintings. :) I painted this on wood. I really like how the real wood background compliments the elements and figures in the whole piece.

Chanel Girl

Chanel Girl

Happy Saturday everyone :)
I hope you've had a great week so far.

This painting is inspired by Chanel Spring Couture 2009. It's one of my favorite collections from Chanel. I love the structure of the dresses and the elaborate paper headdresses. :) I did a little bit of collage work on the wood. It's fun to combine different mediums together.

Amelia

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

I've been working on some small fashion illustrations on wood pieces lately. Usually my girls have a very stoic expression on their faces, so I wanted to try something new and add more emotion to them. I don't know why but the name "Amelia" popped up in my head while I was painting this girl. I saw a picture of this dress on Tumblr and it looked like it belonged to her. Let me know what you think. :)

Monday Madness

Happy Monday everyone! :)

I stayed up way too late last night painting. I'm chugging a big glass of coffee right now to keep myself up haha. It's irritating, but I seem to always get inspired and in "painting mode" in the late hours of the night. I really need to readjust myself to wake up early to paint and sleep at a decent hour.

I am in love with Chanel's Spring 2012 RTW collection so I decided to paint one of my favorite dresses. I love collections that invoke magical and whimsical imagery. This collection is like a magical undersea world of sea horses, pearls, mermaids, and shells.

Happy Thursday everyone :)

This is an old chalk pastel drawing of model Lily Cole. I did this in my Intermediate drawing class for the final project. My professor Jack Hanna was super awesome and he basically gave us free reign on our creative vision.

Tofu Village

The other day Paul and I went to Tofu Village in Chinatown to try some Korean dishes. This was the first time I had Korean food. It was so delicious! I got a big stone pot of white rice that was topped off with many different veggies, an egg, and beef. It was SOOOO GOOD! I finished the whole bowl. They gave us so much food and extra mini side dishes to add. I was very impressed. Definitely going to eat there again and try some other dishes! I am in love :D

Happy Valentine's Day!

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
Ahhhhh, the day of LOVE! I hope you all get to spend some quality time with your loved one today. I know some people may scoff at such a "commercial" holiday, but I think it's just another great excuse to go all out and show your significant other how much they mean to you.

And today of all days, I am officially engaged!

But before I reveal how the proposal went down, I figure I would share our love story with you all first.

Paul and I met on Match.com on December 25, 2011, of all places!

I have had the worst luck meeting great guys in real life. It just seemed to be asshole after asshole. After so many disappointments in love and relationships, I really had just about given up on it. I told myself I would just focus on my school and work. But nearing Christmas Day, I finally stopped crying about my loneliness and decided to suck it up and do something about it.

I decided to try online dating. I always saw commercials on TV and other friends about Match.com and eHarmony getting people together. I've got nothing to lose and everything to gain if I happen to meet someone by chance.

So I took the plunge and joined Match.com for a free 7-day trial. I made a profile, being very honest about who I am and what I want. No casual sex, one night stands, or friends with benefits. I wanted a serious long-term relationship.

In my heart it felt like the right time. It was going to be 2012 soon. It's supposed to be a year of changes and rebirth. I wanted that to be true for me. I honestly did not expect anything.

A couple of guys emailed me, but it was all boring small talk and one liners like "Hi! How are you?" Zzzz boring! I don't have time to make small talk with you... Anyways, after the first 2 days I didn't care anymore... all the guys seemed the same, looking for something casual, testing the waters, and not interested in me enough.

Then...

To my surprise...

On Christmas day I got an email in my Match.com inbox from Paul. Something about his email perked my interest, so I went to have a look at his profile. I felt all of these butterflies fluttering in my stomach when I saw his pictures. He was so handsome! I also totally fell in love with his profile. He seemed so cool and fun to hang out with. So we had one chat on MSN, talking for hours with sparks flying, and he asked me out on a date right away.

We met on January 2, 2012 for our first date. I was so nervous and excited! He was even more handsome and charming in person.

On our first date, we went out to the Museum of Fine Arts and ended with dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant. There were sparks and great chemistry between us all day. After we finished dinner, we headed out to his car to go home. Before he started the car, Paul turns to me and says, "So, I got a gift for you."

Me: "Huh what?? O____O You did?!"

He reaches behind him and pulls out a huge brand new Alice in Wonderland book.

It was one of the loveliest books I had ever seen. I was so touched at his thoughtfulness that I got tears in my eyes (I'm such a wuss... thank god I held it in!). A few days before our date I had mentioned to him that I've never owned an Alice in Wonderland book.

I couldn't believe he remembered!

No guy had ever done anything so sweet like that for me. I started falling in love with him right then and there.

For our second date, Paul drove us up to his home in The Woodlands and we took a long walk along the little river around the shopping center.

We ended up at this beautiful fountain that was surrounded by trees that were lit up by Christmas lights. It was a really pretty spot. He got out some change and I told him to make a wish. He looked down at me, smiled and said, "My wish is right here." :)

The music started and I suggested we should practice dancing like father and daughter. You know, when the little girl stands on her father's feet and he dances around with her cause she's so short. It was quite hilarious. I put my feet on his and he held me as he tried to dance gracefully. But it was an awkward bumbling mess and we kept falling back and forth. But it was so fun.

In the end we settled down on the bench and he wrapped his arms around me. We held each others hands and rubbed hands for some warmth. He had enormous hands compared to mine. My whole hand took up almost all of his palm. It felt so nice and sweet just sitting there cuddling with him. If it wasn't so cold I could have sat there the whole night with him. I was falling for him so hard.

That night he asked me to be his girlfriend. I said, "It's about time!" HAHAHA!

On our fourth date, while cuddling on a picnic in the park, Paul looks down at me with a smile and sighs softly. Then he tells me, "I can't believe this has happened to me, but I've fallen for you hard, Alice." He then continues to confess all of his feelings for me.

He tells me he has fallen in love with me. "I'm in love with you, Alice."
"Somehow you've managed to break down all of my walls. I've never felt this strongly about any woman before."

I was kind of speechless for a bit. I didn't think he'd get so attached to me so soon. Knowing his past, he's never been emotionally attached to any girl before. He's never even told a girl "I love you." And now he told ME. After only four dates!

I said, "I love you too. I've been falling for you ever since you gave me that Alice in Wonderland book." And it's true. I'd been falling in love with him ever since our first date. I couldn't help it. Everything he says, does, and is... just feels so right to me. Being with him just feels right. I got really emotional just thinking about everything he's done and I felt the tears welling up in my eyes. I didn't want to cry, but the more sweet things he said to me, the weaker I became. The tears started flowing heavily down my cheeks. There was so much happiness spilling out from inside of me. He held me close, smiled, and kissed me.

And the rest is history! :D

If you are a lady who has been jaded by bad experiences with boys, I hope my story gives you hope. There are wonderful, charming, and devoted gentlemen still left out there. Very few, but they do exist! All you need to do is open your heart and believe. Love yourself, and believe that you are a woman of worth and you deserve a man who will treat you like a princess!

And now onto the Valentine's Day Proposal!

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

On Valentine's day, Paul took me out to eat at a very nice restaurant. He had his friend videotape us the whole time and take pictures. I guess I should have been suspicious about that, but this was my first Valentine's Day with a guy and I'm always taking pictures wherever I go, so I didn't think beyond, "Oh yay we're gonna have our first Valentine's date on video and pictures!! :D". I just thought it was super sweet he got his friend to videotape us.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

So before dessert came out, I gave him my gifts and he loved them very much. He was surprised I had gotten him so many things. I made him a huge Lion card and bought him some Star Wars plushies since he loves Star Wars. Inside the card I had written two long love letters telling Paul how much he means to me and how much I love him. I thought we were just going to exchange gifts. Then Paul would probably have hired a live band to come to our table to serenade me. Or something sweet like that. And then they'd bring out a big special dessert. Little did I know how special my dessert would be... Nothing of what I expected did happen.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Then the waiter brings out dessert. He places a big plate in front of me. On the left side, written in chocolate, were the words: "Will you marry me?" I think my head imploded at that point. I just stared at the words with utter shock. I said to Paul, "Are you serious?!" He rushes over to my side and gets down on one knee. He pulls out a ring box and opens it, showing me the engagement ring. OH MY GOD IT'S A RING! THIS IS FOR REAL! He starts talking to me, saying lovely romantic things but my heart and my head were going crazy at that point so I don't remember most of what he said. Something along the lines of "...these past few weeks have been the best time of my life and I can't live without you, will you marry me?" Hahahahahaha! After he asked, "Will you marry me?" I snapped back into real time and screamed "YES!!!!" I flung myself into his arms and we fell over on the floor. He was laughing so hard and I kept saying "oh my god oh my god oh my god!" It really was surreal. Everyone around us were laughing and clapping at my exuberance. It was the best Valentine's Day ever.

I'm still amazed at how fast we fell for each other. Paul and I have been dating only a little over a month, but I already know this is the man I want to spend the rest of my life with. I love him so much. I have never had a man treat me so well, with such love, care, and respect. He makes me feel like a princess. He's just so amazing and wonderful to me. Paul is so smart, caring, devoted, sweet, funny, handsome, and charming. He always makes me laugh and smile. I'm so proud to have him as my man. He's all I have ever wished and hoped for. I feel so lucky and blessed to have him in my life. Every day with Paul just keeps getting better and better. Each is infinitely better than the last. I finally found my Prince Charming.

And who says fairytales don't come true? ;)

V-Day Anticipation

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Ahh... it's February--the month brimming with exorbitant amounts of pink and red colors, hearts, chocolates, stuffed plushies, romance, and declarations of love. Guys are rushing to book nice places and buying gifts for their special ladies in anticipation of Valentine's Day.

I've had quite the terrible track record with Valentine's Day. I have never had a great Valentine's Day. I was always alone and single when that day rolled around for one reason or another. This year will be completely different though. For the first time ever, I will have someone to celebrate V-Day with.

My wonderful boyfriend Paul has been super encouraging and supportive of my passion for art ever since the first day we met. He has been to all of my shows and has gone out of his way to make sure I succeed in whatever I want to do. As an artist, it is so important to have a significant other who is supportive of you and your work. I have never felt so loved and cherished before in my life. It's hard to contain such happiness. I can't wait to share Valentine's Day with him :)

In the picture: Paul took me to Sugarbaby's Cupcake Boutique last Thursday on Feb-2 to try out the delicious cupcakes. This is probably my favorite picture of us so far. We were dressed very nicely that day because I had an art show later in the evening. I fell in love with the sweet and girly decor. I think I loved the decor more than the cupcakes! :P

Sherbet Dreams

Happy New Year everyone! Hahaha it's been so long since I have made a post. I have a couple of new paintings done that I haven't gotten around to scanning or photographing yet. I really should hop to it this week, huh?

I hope you all had a great winter holiday. I made a lot of new year resolutions that I am determined to keep this year. 2012 is the year of the Dragon-which is ALWAYS GOOD LUCK AND AUSPICIOUS! I was born in the year of the Dragon, and so far so many good things have been happening already. :D
